One way of solving maths problems is to use simple formulae. These are mathematical statements that can be used to solve problems quickly.
For example, the formula for finding the square of a number is:

This formula can be used to solve problems where the number being squared is known. However, it can also be used to solve problems where the square of the unknown number is needed.
